Often, we refer to recruitment functions such as screening, database management, pay and bill, contracts management as ‘back office’ which can create an impression of being of less importance and value compared to (say) account management or resource delivery. This is something that has just ‘happened’ in the recruitment profession, over time, and is definitely a missed opportunity for winning and retaining business as well as attracting and retaining key employees.
All of these functions are CRITICAL to each business and should be brought to the fore to reflect their true value and importance. Showcase how you do what you do in compliance, candidate database management, pay and bill (particularly how you manage the IR35 processes) and candidate screening, even rename them to stop calling them ‘back office’, involve key people in these functions to help shape and win deals. Customers and candidates are interested in all aspects of your business and the market demands accuracy and precision in all areas – make sure you maximise these assets (the functions and the people) to strengthen who you are, what you do and how well you do it.
