Briefing Note - Prime Minister’s Position
Keir Starmer is currently in the most perilous position of his premiership, in a week that some have described as the “beginning of the end”. On Sunday 8th February, his most loyal and trusted adviser, Morgan McSweeney, resigned after pressure from Labour MPs following controversy over the decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as US Ambassador.
McSweeney’s resignation on Sunday further weakened the PM, with some Labour MPs considering it to be a matter of ‘when’ not ‘if’ he goes. The big questions for the country are when this could happen, how it could take place, and what a new Prime Minister would mean for the policy, economic approach and agenda of this Government.
