APSCo has partnered with inclusive recruitment expert, Bridge of Hope, to help its members reduce unconscious bias in their own hiring and those of their clients, by recruiting for ‘grit’. Under the partnership, APSCo recruitment members will have access to the dedicated Grit Tool Kit – which includes behavioural interview questions and scoring guidelines.
APSCo members can access the toolkit here.
They will also gain greater connections to the thousands of UK charities, educational institutions and organisations that are affiliated with the Bridge of Hope brand.
This latest move comes at a time of increased media scrutiny around diversity and inclusion, driven, in part, by comments from the Trump administration. However, according to APSCo, no firm can overlook the benefits of diverse hiring on bottom line figures, with data from McKinsey revealing that companies with high levels of ethnic diversity have a 35% probability of higher profits than their competitors. Gender diversity was also proven to lead to a 25% chance of better profits for firms.
Samantha Hurley, Managing Director at APSCo comments:
“Inclusive hiring is expected of recruiters today, despite some of the more unpopular opinions emerging in the news agenda. However, a combination of inherent unconscious bias (which is an unfortunate part of human nature) and rigid processes have made it difficult for staffing companies to implement and manage truly inclusive practices. We’re delighted to partner with Bridge of Hope to allow APSCo members access to the guidance and expert advice they need to drive real changes for themselves and their clients.
“Aside from the clear benefits that diverse recruiting brings to business creativity, innovation, bottom line results and more, there is also the added value of building a more future proof workforce which recruiters have to create for their own company and those they work with. Given how quickly technical skills requirements are changing in the modern world, more employers are focusing on hiring softer traits such as resilience, loyalty, creativity, perseverance and potential. These are highly difficult attributes to ascertain in an individual for even the most seasoned of recruiters.
“That’s where the Grit Tool Kit can help. It is hugely valuable, insightful and provides tangible actions and tactics for recruiters to help them make small, but impactful changes.”
