Applied Strengths
Train for Skills and Knowledge, Hire for Behaviour
It is often noted that while skills can be taught, behaviour is more difficult to change. As a result, some hiring practices prioritise identifying candidates whose behavioural traits and alignment with organisational culture match the company's needs, along with technical skills and knowledge. This approach aims to develop teams that work collaboratively, adapt effectively, and are compatible with company values.
Applied Strengths utilises the Life Orientations (LIFO®) Behavioural Profiling method to assist organisations with recruitment and team development. The LIFO® method has been adopted in over 60 countries by more than 20,000 organisations to support both personal and professional growth.
This strength-based methodology is integrated from the recruitment stage and may offer several advantages:
Assesses cultural and team fit through targeted surveys.
Seeks to improve hiring accuracy and reduce risks associated with poor selection, which is particularly relevant with upcoming legislation such as the 2026 Employee Rights Bill.
Intends to support collaboration and productivity under various conditions, including stress or conflict.
May speed up onboarding and assimilation processes.
Aims to enhance motivation and self-awareness, contributing to the Employee Value Proposition.
Encourages employee engagement, as well as Equality, Diversity & Inclusion initiatives.
For effective use of the LIFO® method, organisations are encouraged to certify or accredit practitioners internally. Both online and in-person accreditation programmes are available for APSCo members, who receive discounts. Accredited practitioners gain access to tools for administering and interpreting survey results, digital resources such as interview questions, and materials for supporting ongoing behavioural development.
Applied Strengths provides continued support to all accredited practitioners via a dedicated Account Manager.
